How it works

Guided wave radar operates on the principle of time domain reflectometry (TDR).The transmitting antenna transmits high-frequency pulse radar waves to the measured medium along a wave guide rod or a wave guide cable, and the radar waves propagate downwards along the wave guide element.

When encountering the surface of the measured medium, the radar wave will be reflected due to the dielectric constant difference between the medium and the air (or other upper medium), and the reflected wave will return to the receiving antenna along the waveguide element.

By measuring the time difference between the transmitted wave and the reflected wave, combined with the known radar wave propagation velocity, the guided wave radar can calculate the distance from the guided wave element to the medium surface, and then obtain the liquid level or material level height.
